How to track link-in-bio clicks without cookies or pixels

What “views” actually mean, why numbers differ between apps, and how UTM tags tell you which platform sends people.

What gets counted

A view is a real page load from something that is not a bot. Linky counts it on the server, once per visitor per day. A visitor is a salted hash of address, browser and date; the salt rotates every day, so the hash cannot be turned back into a person, and nothing is stored on their device. No cookie banner, because there is no cookie.

A click is a beacon sent when someone taps a link. A play is your music starting.

Why Instagram says 200 and Linky says 120

Apps count taps on the link. Some of those taps are the same person twice, some are link-preview bots fetching the page to make a thumbnail, some are the in-app browser prefetching. We discard bots, previews and repeat loads. The smaller number is the one that is true.

Where people come from

Referrers tell you the site or app that sent someone, when it reveals itself. Many apps do not: a link opened from TikTok’s app often arrives with no referrer at all and lands in “direct”.

The fix is a UTM tag. Use a different link in each bio:

  • TikTok bio: linky.moe/you?utm_source=tiktok
  • Instagram bio: linky.moe/you?utm_source=instagram
  • YouTube description: linky.moe/you?utm_source=youtube

Analytics → Campaigns then shows exact counts per source, no guessing.

Reading the chart

The line is this period; the dashed line is the same length of time before it. If the dashed line is above the solid one, you are down. The best-day marker tells you what day of the week your audience shows up; post before that.
